Content

In military affairs, the civil field, in administrative, criminal cases - specialists working in the legislative field are in demand everywhere. The activities of lawyers, advocates, prosecutors, bailiffs, and enforcement officers are highly valued at the state level. Lawyer Days are events that sum up the work of all these people who represent such structures for the protection of human rights and freedoms as the Bar, the notary, and the judiciary. On Lawyer's Day, all servants of Themis are given special honors.

When is Lawyer's Day in Russia?

Since 2008, there has been an understanding of when Lawyer's Day is celebrated. The President of Russia issued a decree defining the official date of the professional celebration and uniting all Russian legal scholars. Since then, Lawyer's Day has been celebrated on December 3 - a holiday when they not only congratulate, but also celebrate outstanding specialists in the field of Russian jurisprudence and present them with well-deserved government awards.

Who celebrates

The legal profession is considered one of the most necessary and difficult in society. She deserves respect, she commands respect. Knowledge of the law is necessary in any industry and for every person. Such services are provided to the population and are always in demand; they allow us to resolve disputes and build legal relations. Everyone should know what date Lawyer’s Day is celebrated, because if possible, clients should also remember the important date.

Those responsible for the development of jurisprudence also celebrate their professional holiday. For example, at Moscow University (MSU, MSPU), the law faculty trains young legal professionals. Teachers and students join people engaged in practice who have dedicated their lives to protecting the freedom of citizens, activities related to justice and jurisprudence. Representatives of different directions work in this area:

  • legal advisers;
  • judges and magistrates;
  • lawyers,
  • notaries,
  • human rights activists;
  • prosecutors.

History of the holiday

Until 2008, Lawyer's Day in the Russian Federation was not celebrated as a separate official holiday. It was then that representatives of the Moscow Regional Duma turned to legal public associations, specifically the Russian Lawyers Association, with the initiative to establish a new professional holiday and celebrate Lawyer Days annually. This idea was supported by the Russian government; Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev was the first to do so.

It was planned to define the following dates as Lawyer's Day: February 28 - in memory of Yaroslav the Wise, who laid the foundation for the Code of Laws "Russian Truth", and January 22 - the day of consideration of the draft Regulations on the Academy of Sciences and Arts (the Faculty of Law also began its activities as part of it). After this, the professional day of legal workers was determined to be December 3 - the date when the reform was carried out, charters and laws were adopted that determined the legal systems of Russia. Germany became the model for reform.

The emergence of jurisprudence as a science

Jurisprudence began to stand out as an independent science in the 18th century, when the first lawyers appeared and laid the foundation for the further development of the field. Representatives of Themis did not so much develop laws as streamline existing, disparate and contradictory acts, bringing them to a unified system. Peter I took the German system of lawmaking as a basis, and teachers from Germany invited from abroad became the first teachers of law. By the end of the 18th century, legal law was taught by Russian teachers.

Lawyer's Day in the Russian Empire

After the judicial reform of 1864, the introduction by Peter I of the position of bailiffs, a little later - the prosecutor's office and the bar, the publication of the Complete Collection of Laws, the Code of Laws of the Russian Empire, domestic jurisprudence reached a new level. This was the case until 1917, before the October Revolution. The Soviet government abolished Lawyer Days. However, after 2008 they returned - International Lawyer's Day began to be celebrated on December 3 (November 20, old style), as it had been since 1864.

During the USSR period (the first years), a lawyer was a bearer of important knowledge. The main task of the worker was state construction. On May 11, 1920, the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR issued a decree that obligated all lawyers to register with the employment departments (recording and distribution of labor) within three days after studying in order to distribute labor reserves as efficiently as possible. If citizens did not have time to do this at the specified time, then the act was equated to desertion and was considered in court, and a sentence was passed.

After perestroika in Russia, the role of lawyers changed. The profession has become popular and in demand: new positions have appeared, for example, justices of the peace, notaries, bailiffs. Not only the structure and form of obtaining higher legal education has changed: new associations of lawyers (public, corporate) - associations, chambers, professional associations - have begun to emerge. Today, more than a dozen federal and regional legal organizations of a commercial and public nature operate on the territory of the Russian Federation.

Traditions of the professional holiday of lawyers

Congratulations in many organizations begin in the morning. This day is not a day off. By tradition, all local employees are presented with certificates and gifts. In the evening, an unofficial part is held, which includes concert programs, corporate events, and in some cases legal conferences. The banquet part takes place in restaurants and cafes.

Lawyers are people who appreciate and love humor. Congratulations can be comic, humorous or serious, formal and sincere, from colleagues. Gifts with symbols of justice are often given. However, when choosing gifts you need to be careful, because they often duplicate each other. Often given:

  • figurines depicting Themis;
  • scales of the Goddess of Justice;
  • writing sets;
  • branded mugs, etc.

Presentation of the Lawyer of the Year Award

Lawyers are specialists who provide legal advice and ensure the protection of the rights of every person. The basis of judicial activity is determined by the focus on legal support for citizens. Often, when establishing justice, a lawyer must do a lot of work. Naturally, all this does not go unnoticed by representatives of not only the regional Duma, but also the government of the country. Congratulations on Lawyer's Day are received by leading figures of justice during the highest legal award of the Russian Federation - “Lawyer of the Year”.

Lawyer's Day 2019 will take place on December 3. Traditionally, those who worked for the good of human life and the state will receive their awards from the Russian Lawyers Association. Certificates and gifts are awarded to lawyers in 6 categories:

  • “Development of legislation”;
  • “For contribution to legal science”;
  • "Legal Education";
  • “Legal education and upbringing”;
  • “Human rights activities”;
  • "For contribution to the protection of human rights and freedoms."

At the festival, senior officials not only honor specialists who successfully work in their field for the sake of the functioning of the legal sphere of the state, but also award certificates of honor to the best law students who show brilliant results. On this unforgettable solemn day, every employee in the legal field is not left without due attention. A traditional event is the presentation of books on jurisprudence. The ceremony ends with a festive evening.

Congratulations on Lawyer's Day

Lawyer's Day 2019 is celebrated in Russia on December 3. The holiday is celebrated by lawyers, judges, human rights activists, investigators, prosecutors, notaries, and legal advisers. In 2019, it is officially celebrated in the Russian Federation for the 12th time.

Holiday traditions

On this holiday, senior officials of the legislative, executive and other branches of government send official congratulations to their colleagues. The best law students receive certificates of honor. Presentations of books on law are organized.

Outstanding figures in the field of law are awarded the prestigious Lawyer of the Year award. The Russian Lawyers Association initiated the presentation of the award. After the end of the ceremony, a festive evening is held.

History of the holiday

December 3 was a professional holiday for lawyers in the Russian Empire before the October Revolution. After 1917, the tradition of honoring jurists was lost. She was restored in 2008.

The initiator of the resumption of the holiday was the Moscow Regional Duma. Its deputies submitted a proposal to the Russian Lawyers Association. Previously, the country celebrated only holidays for certain categories of lawyers: Prosecutor's Office Worker's Day, Legal Service Specialist's Day. There was no single holiday in honor of all jurists. On January 29, 2008, the initiative of the Duma deputies was supported by the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Government D. Medvedev. On February 4, 2008, the President of the Russian Federation V. Putin issued Decree No. 130, which established Lawyer Day.

The date of the holiday coincides with the adoption of laws and court statutes in the Russian Empire on December 3, 1864, which became the basis for judicial reform.

About the legal profession

A lawyer studies and interprets legal norms, controls and ensures the legal activities of organizations, institutions, and citizens. Such a specialist can establish the facts of an offense, the persons who committed them, and also determine penalties for violating the law.

History of Lawyer's Day and traditions of celebration

The profession of lawyer has very ancient roots.

In fact, its origins date back to Ancient Greece. The ancient Greek sophistic philosophers laid the foundation for legislation and the rule of law as such, laying the foundation for legal science and lawmaking. A lot of time has passed since then, and the legal profession is still in demand and respect to this day.

Lawyers celebrate their professional holiday annually on December 3. It was approved by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of February 4, 2008 No. 130 “On the establishment of Lawyer’s Day”, but is not a red day of the calendar.
According to the latest estimates kept by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, approximately 700 thousand students study at Russian universities, who upon graduation become certified lawyers. By the way, there have been conversations in the country for a very long time about reducing the enrollment of students in legal specialties and abolishing correspondence courses, arguing that this will thus improve the quality of training for future legal professionals and, as a result, the country will receive lawyers who are ready will devote themselves entirely to the profession.

This professional holiday is celebrated by all Russian lawyers, advocates, judges, prosecutors, investigators, notaries, legal advisers, university teachers and law students.

The date of the celebration was not chosen by chance. In 1864, on December 3, judicial statutes and laws began to operate on the territory of the Russian Empire, which became the embodiment of judicial reform. After the October Revolution, the tradition of honoring the work of lawyers was lost and resumed after the formation of the Russian Federation, but then not yet at the national level.

On this day, all lawyers in the country receive official congratulations and honors from high-level officials. For outstanding services in the legal field to the state, legal luminaries receive an award "Lawyer of the Year" in one of 6 approved nominations. At the corporate level, teams organize celebrations and parties. The management of companies and enterprises rewards lawyers and presents diplomas and certificates of honor.

All radio stations throughout the day carry congratulations on Lawyer’s Day from family, friends and relatives, and TV channels broadcast documentaries about the profession and interview honored lawyers of Russia.

Labor market for lawyers: problems, trends and salaries

The economic crisis today dictates conditions on the labor market in the field of jurisprudence.

The crisis has affected both the opening of new vacancies and the level of salaries of lawyers in general. Many companies are trying to retain existing staff by refusing to layoffs, but at the same time they are increasingly giving preference not to business development, but to temporary projects. The main problem of the labor market is an oversaturation of personnel, both experienced and yesterday’s university graduates. It is extremely difficult to employ all lawyers, so many of those who have a diploma of higher legal education are forced to work outside their specialty.

According to Maria Khandros, a consultant with human resources company Kelly Services, Today, 8-10 candidates apply for one lawyer vacancy with an average salary. At the same time, the employer, as a rule, is ready to conduct interviews with all applicants in order to be sure to select the one most suitable for the requirements of the vacancy in terms of work experience and personal characteristics. The main requirements that an employer puts forward if he decides to look for a new employee are a diploma, preferably a Master of Law, and relevant work experience of at least 3 years. Many employers also want to have legal practitioners and general-purpose lawyers working under them.

Regarding the salary level, then according to statistics from the website Rabota.yandex.ru, a lawyer in Moscow is offered on average 58 thousand rubles a month, in St. Petersburg the average monthly salary is 43 thousand rubles, in other regions the average salary of a lawyer is 25-28 thousand rubles.

According to the Kaus recruitment agency, the highest salaries are offered to lawyers in the field of investment law and real estate - about 84 thousand rubles; they also earn well international lawyers– on average 88.5 thousand rubles, and also tax lawyers– 81 thousand rubles. Specialists who work with debt and registration of legal entities earn the least. Their average salary is 50-55 thousand rubles.

A lawyer also has a decent level of remuneration; his salary starts from 100 thousand rubles, and the head of the legal department in a large company can count on a salary of 115 thousand rubles.

The labor market in the field of jurisprudence is unstable and subject to the influence of the economic crisis. According to Laurence Simons, in 2014–2016, only 76% of legal applicants found a suitable job in their specialty within six months. The trend in the market is that the level of wages will not increase in 2017, and in order for an applicant to qualify for a decent level of remuneration, he should interest the employer with his experience and portfolio of successfully implemented projects.

On December 3, Russia celebrates Lawyer Day. The decree establishing the holiday was signed on February 4, 2008 by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In Russia, jurisprudence as a science arose in the 18th century. Before this, it was generally of a purely applied nature. There was law enforcement practice and therefore law was the exclusive property of the authorities and the courts.

The main content of the new system of preparation for the legal profession was the study of legal sciences in educational institutions specially created for this purpose. The first legal scholars appeared in Russia at the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, opened in 1725 at the behest of Peter I. Legal science and education received a new impetus in its development with the opening of Moscow University in 1755, where the Faculty of Law was established.

Two events brought domestic jurisprudence to a new level: the publication of the Complete Collection of Laws and the Code of Laws of the Russian Empire and the judicial reform of 1864. This period gave Russia a whole generation of lawyers who laid the foundation for the further development of science. They took German jurisprudence as the basis for Russian jurisprudence, primarily the leading direction at that time - the historical school of law.

In the first years of the existence of the USSR, a lawyer was considered a bearer of the most important knowledge and was subject to mobilization for state building (along with military specialists). On May 11, 1920, the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR issued a decree "On the registration of persons with higher legal education", according to which these persons were obliged to register with the departments of accounting and distribution of labor within three days. Delay in registration was equivalent to desertion and was punishable by the court.

In post-perestroika Russia, the role and importance of the legal profession have changed radically, its authority and popularity have increased, new legal specialties have emerged (magistrates, bailiffs, private notaries, etc.); the structure, methods and forms of higher legal education have changed; New corporate and public associations of lawyers have emerged (chambers of notaries, professional associations of various categories of lawyers, associations of law schools, etc.).

Currently, there are several federal and dozens of regional public and non-profit corporate organizations of lawyers and their associations operating in Russia.

The current stage of reforms in Russia is characterized by the improvement and strengthening of the rule of law, the creation and development of democratic institutions of society.

The initiative to establish a new professional holiday in Russia - Lawyer's Day - was first taken by the Moscow Regional Duma, whose deputies addressed this proposal to the Russian Lawyers' Association. Previously, only the Day of the Prosecutor's Office Worker and the Day of the Legal Service Specialist were celebrated in Russia. However, these categories of lawyers do not include workers in the legal profession in the field of lawmaking and implementation and specialists working in other areas of the creation and application of legal norms. On January 29, 2008, at the congress of the Russian Lawyers' Association, the idea of establishing a new professional holiday was supported by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.

At the stage of putting forward the initiative, there were several options for setting the date itself. According to one of them, it was proposed to celebrate Lawyer's Day on February 28 - the day of memory of the Grand Duke of Kyiv Yaroslav the Wise, who laid the foundation for the oldest code of laws "Russian Truth". Other proposals also included January 22, the day on which in 1724 the Senate considered the draft regulations on the establishment of the Academy of Sciences and Arts, within which the Faculty of Law was established.

As a result, the first Lawyer’s Day in the modern history of Russia was celebrated in 2008 on December 3. On this day, November 20, old style, in 1864, a series of judicial statutes and other legislative acts were adopted in Russia, which became the basis of judicial reform, and it was this day that Russian lawyers considered their professional holiday until 1917.

Since 2009, on Lawyer's Day, the All-Russian public organization "Russian Lawyers' Association" has awarded the highest legal prize in Russia, "Lawyer of the Year."

The annual prize is awarded to lawyers and legal scholars for their significant contribution to the formation of the rule of law, strengthening the rule of law and order, protecting the rights and legitimate interests of citizens and the development of legal science. The award is a recognition of the services of highly qualified lawyers to society and the state.
