Daria Savitskaya, the founder of the Wrap me company, is sure that it is bright and beautiful packaging that creates that very festive and magical mood.

Are you able to enjoy the pre-New Year's troubles? After several years of working in this business, do you still believe in miracles and look forward to the holiday?

I would really like to answer “yes”, but sometimes it is very difficult. I try to maintain this feeling for the sake of my loved ones. Therefore, about a week before the New Year, I begin to very quickly come up with and buy the last gifts, I wrap them myself at home. Every year I come up with a specific style and color scheme for gift wrapping. I decorate the house and the Christmas tree with the children, and that’s when I feel like I’m in the New Year’s mood.

- How did you get the idea to start wrapping gifts? How to develop your business? Where did you start?

Five years ago, I traveled half of Moscow in search of simple and stylish packaging for a New Year's gift for a loved one. Unable to find anything, I wrapped everything myself using simple things like craft paper, cut-out snowflakes and twine, and also included a card I brought from Europe. So I realized that my beloved city lacks a place where you can buy stylish and beautiful packaging for every taste. Then the idea came to open Wrap me! A place where creativity, simple and stylish ideas will be combined with quality materials that we so carefully search for and select for our collections. We started with a small corner at the Flacon design factory, where we opened before February 14, but almost immediately it became clear that we needed to move on and move somewhere closer to the center. We first moved to the Atrium shopping center, where we still have one of our stores, and then our points appeared in “European”, “TSUM”, VEGAS, “Your House”. A branded store opened at the intersection of Brestskaya and Vasilyevskaya streets on Mayakovskaya.

- Where do you get inspiration before you start creating beautiful packaging?

Every time I travel to a country, I always go into some shops with gifts, cards and packaging. I buy something, bring samples to Moscow and then look for someone here who makes something similar. But in general, we have a lot of talented designers and artists who make very beautiful handmade cards and toys, and we are happy to present their products here. I also advise my sellers to open the Pinterest app every morning before starting the day, and there I maintain my “boards” with different types of packaging, where they can spy on something and then repeat it in action. You can also see some beautiful paper patterns there. We already have the practice of printing our paper with our designs for seasonal holidays, but this year we want to open our own production and print paper and make boxes with our exclusive designs.

- What do you prefer: giving or receiving gifts?

Giving gifts, and I also really like surprises. That’s why gift packaging is so important to me! After all, you never know what's inside. This is intrigue, anticipation, childish delight from exploding paper. Relatives and friends know that I am very particular about decorating gifts, so they try to wrap them in our Wrap me stores, because that’s where you can find creative and stylish packaging.

- What are the most unexpected and unusual gifts you have received?

For my last birthday, my children and my husband made me a very funny newspaper wall, on which the most ridiculous, funny compliments and phrases were pasted from magazine clippings, and my cartoon was drawn in the middle. Since it was a big surprise, my husband wrapped this huge Whatman paper himself as best he could, it was very sweet and incredibly touching. Or on our wedding anniversary, my husband brought me at five in the morning to the mountains of Cappadocia in Turkey to ride in a hot air balloon - it was incredibly beautiful and romantic, and when we climbed to the highest point and dawn came, he handed me a beautiful envelope tied with a silk ribbon with a wax seal, and there was a ticket to a concert of my favorite singer Zemfira.

- How to succeed in this business, since there are many competitors in the market?

When I decided to open the first store, came up with a name, wrote a concept and created a pricing system, there was nothing like it on the market. There were some small islands in shopping centers with tacky boxes and golden mica, so it was difficult to name them as competitors at that time - we were doing completely different things. I tried to instill in people a love of plain boxes, pastel paper, rope and crocheted lace, little tags for signing gifts that we tied on top, and they still twirled baskets with huge gold bows. But, of course, after five years, many began to copy our style, added plain boxes, began to make some additional elements and use less gold materials for packaging. I’m glad, the world is changing, and this makes me move forward, come up with new directions, such as: decorating custom windows, organizing holidays and decorations for them, we also have a service for on-site gift wrapping for the office and home, and, well, of course, corporate gift wrapping, which we are actively developing and giving discounts to customers for large orders.
