Crocheted pillowcases for sofa cushions. Ideas for knitted pillow covers. Knitting the front

If you are interested in knitting, then you have probably not only been involved in making clothes, but also tried to make various interior items from threads to decorate your home. This is very important, because charming things for the home created with your own hands have wonderful good energy and create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. Regardless of the era or fashion, knitted pillows, where the covers are knitted by hand, are of great importance. They can have different purposes and shapes, be square and rectangular, round and oval. In addition, knitted pillowcases can be made in the original form of a cushion or pouf.

If you have thick plush-like yarn in your arsenal of threads, you can knit an original pillow in the shape of lips.

To work, you will need three skeins of polyester yarn and number eight circular knitting needles. The size of the cover is sixty centimeters (cm) by forty, and the density of the fabric should be seven loops (P) and thirteen rows (R) in a square pattern ten by ten cm. This original product gives the impression of a plush toy in the shape of lips in a bow, and is knitted quite easily . Both halves must be knitted exactly the same, in stocking stitch. At the same time, to achieve the desired shape of the fabric, it is necessary to periodically add and decrease loops. The product can be an excellent gift for friends and family if you associate it with a suitable holiday, such as a birthday or New Year.

Principles and techniques of making covers

Making knitted pillowcases with your own hands is different in that this handicraft is quite easy to do. Here, only the diagram with a description that corresponds to the relief present on a particular pillow is used. Knitting pillows can be an excellent teaching example for beginning knitters, especially if the pillow shape is a rectangle:

Before you start knitting, you need to measure the pillow you have chosen in order to knit the corresponding cover with knitting needles. Then, as usual, you need to knit a sample to determine the density of the fabric. In this case, knitting the sample must be done with the same knitting needles and relief that you have chosen for the main fabric. Using the same knitting needles and the same pattern, you then need to knit the cover itself. The pillowcase should have dimensions that are at least a centimeter larger than the pillow, otherwise it will shrink inside the cover and lose its shape. We start knitting with a set of P, and continue to knit the shape we need with the selected pattern. If you don't have enough yarn, knit the top half of the pillowcase, and cut the bottom half out of fabric of a suitable shade. Having finished knitting, fold both halves of the pillow face inward and sew them together, then turning them right side out. After this, you need to sew a zipper onto the open area of the cover:

If the selected relief allows, the product is knitted in one continuous strip. Having finished knitting, fold it in half, right side inward, and then sew it on the sides:

Knitting various pillow patterns

In this lesson we will look at knitting simple pillow patterns. Even an inexperienced needlewoman can easily make such knitted pillows with her own hands. If women like a modern style that implies minimalism in the home, then you will like these models. For such pillows, you can choose the most primitive reliefs and patterns and knit them with thick threads, which looks quite original. Pay attention to what stylish models are obtained with this combination:

The blue pillow is knitted in garter stitch and decorated with large buttons. For the gray model, a woven relief was used, the diagram and description of which is here:

The next pattern is the pine cone pattern you see on these pillows:

The only difficulty is to arrange all the cones evenly, at the same distance from each other. The following pillows are knitted in the same way, but with different shades of yarn. Here, a triangular figure, knitted with a Pearl pattern, stands out in garter stitch. The decoration is a large bow made in garter stitch:

Now let's move on to looking at more complex knitting patterns. Specimens for which the “Scythe” or “Arana” relief is chosen look great. In this case, you can get creative and knit braids with the simplest displaced P, or aranas, where the relief is more complex and intricate:

A variety of braided braids look great with patterns like knit stitch, or other combinations of knit and purl stitches. The second group of models is made up exclusively of braids that are not diluted with other patterns:

Openwork cushion covers

For a beautiful pillow with knitting needles with openwork, you just need to find a pattern you like, such as this one:

Often the openwork in the pillow is present only on the upper part of the cover. The bottom looks good when knitted in stockinette stitch. It’s easy to decorate this model by sewing matching beads or a thin satin ribbon to the pillowcase. The openwork relief looks very expressive if there is a pillowcase in a contrasting shade underneath. And here is a model with a heart-shaped openwork section, which is decorated with crocheted flowers and beads:

The following pillow with an openwork pattern is intended for wedding rings:

This wedding pillow model has an openwork knitted insert and is an important wedding accessory. For knitting you will need thin cotton yarn. The insert is knitted on thin, even needles No. 3.5. The pad is a square, the side of which is eighteen cm. The size of the openwork knitted insert is eleven by twenty-six cm. For knitting, you also need to stock up on a small pad of the same size and a light satin ribbon. The openwork insert pattern is knitted according to the pattern we give below:

Jacquard Cushion Covers

For lovers of jacquard patterns, we offer knitting pillows, decorated with colored patterns:

You just need to find a beautiful jacquard pattern and knit a pillowcase according to it. Here, for example, is a very beautiful original diagram of a jacquard pattern that can be placed on a pillow:

A selection of patterns for knitting pillows and pillowcases

If you decide to knit a pillowcase, then first of all choose a yarn that does not irritate the skin, since even if the pillow is lying for decoration, someone will still lie on it. The best and rather unpretentious option would be a knitted pillowcase with a pattern, for example this one:

To make it, you will need large and long knitting needles and yarn of two colors; you choose the color of the yarn according to your wishes for the interior. The first row is cast on with regular loops, then follow the pattern; if you want to make the elements of the pattern convex, then add special loops.

Due to the not very good quality of the photo, here is a link to a larger one.

I propose to consider a knitting pattern for a pillowcase with tassels (see picture above).

Below are presented not only the knitting patterns (pattern), but also the detailed progress of the work.

The hook will only be needed to attach tassels to the pillow, which is made entirely with knitting needles.

I suggest knitting such a wonderful pillowcase. It is good because it enlivens any, even the most unprepossessing, interior, and it is knitted quickly and easily, even a beginner can do it.

So, we pick up stitches and knit in garter stitch until our piece reaches the desired size. Close the loops and secure the ends. Fold it in half and sew the pillowcase together using yarn of the same color, leaving one side free for now.

Now we insert the pillow into our pillowcase and sew it tightly, making sure to straighten the corners. The beautiful pillow is ready. It looks great on a knitted chair, on a sofa and on a small stool.

You can also decorate sofa cushions and/or refresh your interior with the help of knitted pillowcases for decorative pillows.

I suggest knitting beautiful pillowcases with knitting needles.

Pillowcase crocheted to a round pillow. Pattern of leaves with cones.

    Scheme for this pattern.

See how to knit in detail here

Another option for a pillowcase with delicate sunflowers, now on a square pillow,

and a simple knitting pattern for it looks like this:

An interesting option is to combine different patterns and different colors in one pillowcase. You can knit with motifs and then sew. An ideal option for those who have balls of yarn that have nowhere to go. And here they are put to good use. For example, like this:

You can knit a pillowcase with your own hands. The simplest option is to sew all the purl stitches, and use regular fabric on the back of the pillow. However, pillows with a variety of patterns and even a combination of several colors look more interesting. Here are examples of knitting and patterns:

I suggest knitting a decorative pillowcase measuring 40 cm by 40 cm.

You will need for three pieces:

    • five hundred grams of yarn, preferably this: 75% wool and 25% polyamide;
    • knitting needles number 4.5,
    • three lightning bolts.

We knit the back side in this way: we knit the front rows with purl loops, and the purl rows with front loops.

Let's start knitting the back side. When you knit 40 cm, we move on to the front pattern.

When you knit 80 cm, close the row and sew a pillow on three sides.

second pillow: cast on 95 stitches. Here's the diagram:

third pillow: cast on 98 stitches. Then according to the scheme:

Knitting a pillowcase is practically no different from knitting a scarf. Those. we need to knit a rectangle of certain dimensions.

First, choose the pattern you like, find a pattern and knit a sample. Then we wash and dry the sample. Then we determine the knitting density and calculate the required number of loops and rows. A knitted pillowcase can be with or without a scent. Odor also needs to be taken into account when making calculations. When the calculation is ready, cast on the required number of loops and knit according to the pattern. When knitted, we carry out WHT (wet heat treatment), fold it, sew it on the sides and the pillowcase is ready. Here are some photos with diagrams.

Knit a pillowcase for a sofa cushion very easy, because it is most often knitted in the shape of a square or rectangle. To begin, select a pattern, yarn and calculate the required dimensions. I suggest knitting a pillowcase with a Flowers pattern. In the photo the pillow is gray, but you can optionally take yarn of the color you like. For example, take mustard-colored yarn as a basis, and make the pattern black. Such a cozy pillow will certainly decorate the interior of your home.

Now the process of knitting a pillowcase for a pillow.

And here is a diagram of a jacquard pattern for a sofa cushion.

The easiest way to knit a pillow cover is to knit it in stockinette stitch or purl stitch. The main thing is to use a yarn that is soft, pleasant to the body, and so that the color matches the interior. You can knit it from cotton yarn or from non-creaky acrylic yarn, and leave the wool yarn for warm clothes.

Many women often want to change something in their home, no matter how comfortable it is. And you don’t have to buy anything in stores when you can learn how to make any decorative items yourself. One of the most successful products is a hand-crocheted pillowcase. Pillowcases look great on pillows lying on sofas or armchairs, but they won’t be comfortable to sleep on. And when a truly worthy product is obtained, it can be given as a gift to someone. Such gifts are greatly appreciated by those who move from one place to another.

Modern needlewomen will be able to create truly beautiful patterns that will not leave anyone indifferent. Now even a beginner can choose the right pattern for himself and, with the help of a simple diagram, learn how to make interesting drawings; over time, it will turn out much better. Mostly beginners start knitting simple patterns - spider web, granny square and others.

Colored pillowcase

When you want to make your room more cozy and add some color, you can crochet a charming pillowcase with your own hands. This master class will teach everyone how to knit a simple pattern - a grandmother's square, which even those who pick up a crochet hook for the first time can handle.

What we need to prepare:

  • a pillow on which the pillowcase will be knitted;
  • threads of three colors - beige, blue and white;
  • several hooks of different sizes;
  • wooden beads.

Now we start knitting, for this we cast on 4 buttonholes and close them into a ring. Again, 4 chain stitches and 3 columns with only one double crochet, we connect them into a ring using a chain buttonhole. Again 2 air and three with one crochet. And so we knit further. You should get 4 complexes of three with one crochet and two chain buttonholes. And we close the row using a connecting buttonhole. Repeat - 4 chains and again three columns with one crochet in the primary arch. After aerial, we repeat three columns with one crochet, 2 aerial ones and again three columns with one crochet in the same arch. And so on until the end of the row.

In the corner you need to knit two double crochets between three double crochets, and in the same arrangement, three double crochets on the other side, one chain buttonhole. We knit the next row in this way. Next we start knitting with a new color, it will be blue, with which we knit two rows, and then we introduce a beige thread. We knit two rows with this color, go to blue, again two rows. When two rows have been knitted like this, we switch to a white thread. It is best to cut the thread at the end of two rows.

When we finish with the white thread, we begin to knit blue, so two rows, then beige, again blue and white. The last row will be blue. Here is our one part completed. Needlewomen recommend knitting the second half of the pillowcase using more beige color. Just white will be in its place, and in place of blue we will put beige, and in its place there will be blue. Now we need to connect the two parts of the pillowcase together. For this process we need a white thread and a couple of beads.

From a white thread you need to knit a chain of air buttonholes, the length of which will cover the entire perimeter of the pillow, but we still need to knit it a little longer in order to also tie it into a bow. Now we place the two halves of our pillowcase face to face, that is, the wrong side should be facing us from both sides. Next, we pull the rope from the buttonholes through the arch in the corner. Using a hook, we pull the rope into the arches and move in a spiral. Let's see what it should look like in the photo below. When we finish tying the entire pillowcase, we should have two ends of thread left, which we tie into a bow.

We can knit decorations from the remaining yarn. These could be flowers, starfish. In this tutorial, the pillowcase has a sea theme, so it's best to start knitting a starfish.

To do this, we collect 7 air buttonholes from white yarn and close them into a ring. Then we make an air stitch and knit 15 single crochets. After 13 chain stitches and you need to skip one buttonhole in the chain, we knit the sequence one in each chain buttonhole, we knit further: single crochet, two single crochets, 3 double crochets, 3 double crochets, 2 double crochets yarn overs. After that we need to skip one buttonhole in the circle of the previous row and make a single crochet in the next one. In this way we make four more petals. Afterwards, we simply knit a double crochet along the contour with dark beige, then chain a double crochet into the next buttonhole, chain and so on along the entire edge. We put a bead in the middle of the star on the remaining thread. Now we attach the flower to the pillowcase, and now our product is ready.

Good day, friends!

If you have time and patience, and you can’t imagine yourself without needlework, then you’ve probably thought about how to decorate your home. After all, home comfort cannot be imagined without cute little things created for the interior with your own hands. It is from such things that a special energy comes, which creates a warm homely atmosphere.

It somehow happens to me that I don’t often make things for home decor. I prefer making clothes. But then the desire arose to create something from this series and start with pillows. For some reason, they are the ones most associated with home comfort, relaxation and some special warmth, the feeling of which only a home environment can give.

And so, before coming up with something of my own, using existing materials, I decided to look for ideas on the vast expanses of the Internet.

And having seen enough of it, I wanted to systematize these ideas a little and make an article in which I would consider various knitted pillows with diagrams and descriptions. More precisely, we will talk about knitted pillow covers.

So, let's start the review by describing the general principles of working on creating pillow covers, and then consider their various possible options.

It is noteworthy that knitting pillow covers does not require special patterns or descriptions (except for rare, very difficult to make items). You just need to look carefully at the chosen model, and it immediately becomes clear how it needs to be knitted using the patterns already in your arsenal.

Any beginning knitter can master knitting such things. It’s easy to learn and hone your knitting skills on pillows. After all, in fact, you don’t need to knit any complex parts - we just knit an even rectangle or square, and that’s all.

So, before we start work, we select the pillow on which we will knit a cover and measure it.

We knit a small sample from the yarn, with the knitting needles and the pattern that we chose for work. We calculate the knitting density. Then we estimate the dimensions of the cover parts. They must be at least 1 cm larger than the size of the pillow so that it fits properly in it. Moreover, we take into account that some part will get on the seams.

We cast on loops and knit a rectangle or square of the desired size. Moreover, you can knit only one, the upper part of the cover, and the lower part can be cut out of some dense fabric that matches the color of the knitted fabric.

Or you can spend more time and knit both halves of the cover. What if you have to turn the pillow on all sides? Everywhere needs to be beautiful.

After the parts are knitted, we sew along the edges on three sides, placing the parts face to face. Then we turn it inside out. For fastening, we sew a zipper along the edges of the open part of the cover.

Note. You can “sew” the details together using a crochet stitch along the face. At the same time, in addition to connecting the parts, you can additionally make a beautiful crochet binding - be it with cloves, or lace, or ruffles - a matter of taste and imagination.

Depending on the type of pattern used to knit the cover, you can knit a continuous long piece at once. Then simply fold it in half, face inward, and sew the sides together.

You can make a pillow cover in the form of an envelope with a patch flap and fasten it with buttons. But in my opinion, this option is not very practical for use: the welt loops often stretch and the buttons come undone. But that’s just how you like it.

Now let's look at the options.

The simplest pillows

Such pieces are suitable for beginner knitters, as well as those who prefer a minimalist style in the interior. They are carried out by the most simple patterns, but you must admit, there is something in this too. Moreover, as you can see, the yarn and knitting needles can be taken quite thick, which will allow you to knit the cover very quickly.

The blue pillow is made in the most ordinary way garter stitch, and the gray one has a pattern reminiscent of a wicker basket for berries. At the request of readers, I provide a diagram and description of this pattern:

Pillows with openwork patterns

Here you just need to choose the openwork pattern you like and knit the details of the case with it. You can knit the upper half of the cover with an openwork pattern, and the lower half, for example, stockinette stitch.

If desired, you can sew beads on the openwork fabric and thread a satin ribbon somewhere into the holes. Only under such a cover you need to additionally hem some fabric of a contrasting color so that the openwork looks more expressive.

You can crochet additional decorations and sew them on top, decorating them with beads. Like, for example, this pillow with a heart and crocheted flowers.

Cushions with jacquard patterns

It’s the same here - choose the jacquard pattern you like, select the yarn - and go!

An interesting solution is obtained using different colors in openwork wavy patterns. Knitting is not difficult, but it turns out beautifully. We select the colors and width of the stripes to suit your taste.

Cushion covers assembled from individual elements

Such covers can be made either plain or multi-colored. The idea is that different pieces are knitted and then joined into a single whole. Moreover, the direction of knitting when assembling these “spare parts” can be different, which, in fact, gives the product a special charm.

In this photo, the pillow on the right is made using this technique: individual rectangles are knitted with a pattern of stripes with offset loops, which are connected in different directions of the knitting stroke.

For variants of covers assembled from individual elements, you can profitably use leftover yarn. Here are the pillows assembled from multi-colored elements:

The cover for the first pillow is sewn from separate strips made with the pattern “ Braids» from yarn of different colors. And for the second pillow, scraps are simply knitted in different patterns and from different yarns.

Knitting a pillowcase yourself is one of the most useful skills for a needlewoman. The pillowcase presented in the article can be made easily and quite quickly using a crochet hook (on average, 3-4 days). The result is an attractive accessory that can be left to decorate your home interior, or can be given as a gift to a motorist or traveler. If you follow the description, the item promises to turn out very beautiful, which means that such a pillow will always be in demand!

There are many crochet patterns on the Internet, you can take one of them as a sample and continue to show your imagination. Some patterns can be found in knitting books. In our case, a pillowcase in a “marine” style is crocheted using the so-called granny square technique, accessible even to inexperienced needlewomen. The basis was taken on a pillow of a different color, the patterns of which are similar to the one we used:

We crochet a pillowcase on a pillow: we begin the work process

How your pillow turns out after finishing work depends entirely on the flight of your imagination. A number of design elements were added to our pillow, which allowed us to end up with a pillowcase with variations on “marine” themes.

So, to make such a pillowcase we will need the following materials:

  1. The pillow on which the finished product will be placed;
  2. Threads in three colors: white, dark beige and turquoise"
  3. Hooks in several sizes;
  4. Wooden beads.

Using a hook, you need to pick up four air loops, closing them in a circle. At the second stage, we fold four chain loops and double crochet stitches (in the amount of 3 pieces) into a round circle of chain loops. In total you need to make four such sets.

The connecting post is the closing element. After this, the process of tying air loops and columns is repeated: this element must be inserted into the first arch, and then everything is repeated in a circle. Knitting the third row is similar to the first two, and then it is necessary to introduce a new color. What it should be: dark beige or turquoise is up to you, but the knitting principle remains the same.

After two rows of turquoise threads, we introduce yarn of a new color - beige. Having knitted two rows, we again return to turquoise, and then to white threads. During the process, it is better to cut the thread, completing the design of each color (after two rows are knitted), the small end of the thread must be tied into the base of the connecting posts.

Again we knit two rows according to the principle already known to us, and this sequence is maintained until the end of knitting one side of the pillowcase. The process of making a pillowcase using a crochet hook in our example is completed with turquoise rows.

Look at the back of the pillowcase. If it looks something like the one in the photo, everything goes according to plan:

For aesthetic harmony, it is better to knit the reverse part of the pillowcase in a different color combination. Within the yarn colors we have chosen, only the turquoise and beige threads “swap places,” while the white ones remain in place.

The final stage of making a pillowcase.

Of course, both parts of the pillow can simply be sewn together. But it won't be very pretty. To maximize the aesthetics of the final result, according to the photo, we will need a skein of white yarn and a couple of wooden beads.

From yarn we knit a chain of air loops, equal in length to the sum of the sides of the pillowcase, plus 5-7 cm for the tie. Then we fold the two resulting halves inside out to each other, thread the previously made chain through the corner holes, after which

You need to thread a rope in a spiral around the perimeter of the pillow. The most convenient way to do this is with the same hook. At the final stage of “assembling” the pillow, two ends of the rope remain:

You can decorate a pillow with leftover yarn and beads, creating, for example, a “starfish”. Once the star is knitted, it must be attached to the pillow. Then we use the same technique to knit a cute seashell. And we also attach it to the pillow. In a similar way, we create another decorative element - a “jellyfish” and attach it to the pillowcase. The result is a wonderfully decorated pillow, the second of which will not be found:

Note that the pattern for making a “sea” pillow can be used to make a pillowcase stylized to match any other person’s hobby. The technique is shown, and you will find out what other cute pillowcases you can knit using this technique by watching the videos below.

Video on the topic of the article

The process of creating a pillowcase miracle is worth watching in terms of familiarization (first video), step by step (second video) and in sufficient detail (third video), then the work will not seem too complicated and completely unfamiliar to refuse it. From the master classes offered to your attention, it is clear that crocheting this way is accessible even for beginners, and with experience, the speed of making pillowcases will increase! Well, the theme of pillowcases can and should be changed, because not a single craftswoman would be interested in doing the same thing with her own hands!
