Discharge during early pregnancy. Discharge in early pregnancy. Early pregnancy: spotting, causes

During pregnancy, when the body begins to fully adjust, it often happens that bleeding occurs. Bloody discharge during pregnancy can appear both early and later. Most often, this indicates that the pregnancy is proceeding with some abnormalities.

Main causes of pathology

The reasons why discharge may occur are always different and they depend on how long it occurs. If qualified and timely treatment is not carried out, the consequences may be irreparable, such as premature birth, miscarriage, etc.

For the first time, blood clots can begin on the first day of pregnancy. This occurs while the fertilized egg is implanting itself in the wall of the uterus. They are usually scanty, they can come a week, ten days before the start of the expected menstruation, the next cycle.

When spotting during pregnancy begins, a girl may be confused and think that her period is starting, she is not pregnant.

This is dangerous - see a doctor

Such discharge is usually dark brown in color. They can appear thick, scanty, do not last long, and often end earlier than regular periods. This can happen due to hormonal imbalances in the body, but this can also happen during pregnancy.

Blood may appear on the first day of the delay, this may mean a possible miscarriage. When a miscarriage occurs - . The more often and more abundantly the blood appears, the less chance there is of maintaining the pregnancy.

Every woman should remember that when there is bloody, brown discharge, there is a threat or a miscarriage that has already begun. With timely assistance, there is a great chance of bearing a healthy child.

Another reason for spotting during early pregnancy is a frozen or undeveloped pregnancy. It is quite difficult to diagnose this situation; more often it can be determined only after the fourth or fifth week of pregnancy, when the embryo begins to hear a heartbeat.

Non-developing fetus

Therefore, during an ultrasound examination with such a diagnosis, there will be no heartbeat. At such a moment, spontaneous miscarriage may occur. But if you wait for such an outcome, inflammation may begin in the uterus, so specialists immediately prescribe cleaning the uterine cavity.

Also, the cause of spotting that begins during pregnancy can be an ectopic pregnancy. This is one of the most unpleasant reasons. It is necessary to urgently contact specialists. If you are given exactly this diagnosis, this means that the pregnancy will soon be terminated in any case. The fetus will develop and rupture the fallopian tube. This creates a threat to the mother's life. After such consequences, the tube cannot be restored and this may lead to infertility.

This happens if implantation occurs incorrectly, as a result of which the fertilized egg begins to peel off. There's no point in waiting for anything. If you are registered, the doctor will immediately determine what happened. If you have not yet registered, if bleeding begins, you should immediately seek help and clarify the reasons for such phenomena.

Ectopic pregnancy

There can also be many reasons why spotting may begin during pregnancy in the third trimester. If blood appears in the later stages at about 39, 40 weeks, dark brown in color or mixed with mucus, you need to prepare for childbirth soon. But in the second there are only a few reasons - either the placenta is in previa, or its detachment has occurred. In the first case, a doctor during an examination and ultrasound during pregnancy discovers placenta previa (this is approximately at the beginning of the second trimester, according to a routine examination).

Presentation can be complete or partial. In both cases, bleeding occurs in the second and third trimester. If partial presentation is detected, then most likely the placenta will independently “move” into the uterus to the desired level as it grows. In the second case, placental abruption is likely to occur; this can be dangerous for both the expectant mother and the child, as it leads to large blood loss.

But it happens that there is no presentation, just when the PDP (expected date of birth) approaches, there may be bloody streaks along with mucus, that is, a mucus plug comes out. For some women, it may go away as early as three to four weeks before giving birth. Childbirth can continue throughout the day.

Let's look at the table for more reasons why there may be bleeding.

CausesDescriptionIn what percentage does this happen?
Cervical erosionMay be mucous, bloody and purulent. Consultation with a specialist is necessary to ensure that there is no subsequent miscarriage.25 – 30%
Gynecological examinationDischarge during pregnancy that occurs after examination by a gynecologist. They can be minor or spotting. This may be due to the plug coming loose. After this, labor can usually last a day. Bloody discharge occurs if, when examining the cervix, it was slightly injured.10 – 15%
After intercourseIf there is inflammation, there may be slight bleeding after sexual intercourse.20 – 25 %
MyomaThe fibroid tissue releases toxins into the bloodstream and severe bleeding may occur. Before this, pain is felt and body temperature begins to rise.10%
"The Vanishing Twin"This applies to those who have undergone IVF. When twins are rejected in favor of a stronger embryo, bleeding occurs.15 – 20 %

There is no point in being afraid of being examined in a gynecological chair; the doctor always examines his patient very carefully. And if there are no pathologies during pregnancy, then examinations will be rare, from one to three times during the entire pregnancy.

Bloody discharge at the beginning of pregnancy, approximately 4–5 and up to 10 weeks, occurs very often in women, but this is not always considered a deviation from the norm. A similar situation occurs in 75% of pregnant women.

What happens to the female body?

Discharge in the first trimester is considered almost normal if the woman does not experience any additional unpleasant symptoms. There can be many reasons why discharge appears. Active blood supply to the internal genital organs, their excessive sensitivity. This can happen during ultrasound examinations with a vaginal probe or during examinations in a chair using a mirror.

Cases of bleeding after sexual intercourse are also common. Irritation of the cervix and vaginal mucosa occurs. When a small placental abruption occurs, a lot of blood accumulates around it, the discharge appears and is pink in color.

Bloody discharge in the early stages of pregnancy can occur at the time when menstruation usually occurs, the body is not yet fully accustomed. There may be pain in the lumbar region and lower abdomen. When a brown tint is released in the body, the formation of hematomas is possible.

One of the rarest cases when the cause of discharge is a hydatidiform mole - placental tissue grows. The discharge is copious, but not painful. After this, the fetus most often freezes.

How to avoid bleeding in some cases:

  • wear comfortable clothes, underwear that does not restrict your movements;
  • do not use scented personal care products containing dyes;
  • maintain daily genital hygiene;
  • see a doctor.

It often happens that discharge is associated with infectious diseases. Consultation and follow-up treatment are required. Considering that in the middle of the cycle, usually spotting does not pose a particular threat to the baby and the pregnant woman, you should not neglect safety and it is better to contact specialists in a timely manner.

The woman's further actions

In order to begin any treatment, it is necessary to determine why the bleeding occurred, for what reason the spotting appeared during pregnancy (whether in the early stages or in the second trimester). In any case, you should immediately contact a gynecologist. He will conduct a series of diagnostic procedures for you and help you identify the cause.

  1. The specialist will usually take a swab from the vagina.
  2. The pregnant woman is asked to take a general, biochemical blood test.
  3. A coagulogram is performed.
  4. They take blood for HIV infection.
  5. Hepatitis C, B.
  6. Tests for infectious diseases are carried out.
  7. Analysis of urine.
  8. An ultrasound scan of the fetus and pelvis is performed.

Can be detected using a blood test

Then, depending on what pathology the doctor has found, additional tests and treatment are prescribed. If a miscarriage occurs, the following examinations are performed:

  • blood for the level of the hormone hCG;
  • TORCH infection (herpes, rubella, etc.);
  • smear to detect sexually transmitted infections.

In case of such a phenomenon in the last trimester, it is enough to conduct an ultrasound examination. Under no circumstances should you carry out treatment yourself; it can be dangerous. Even with a favorable combination of circumstances, it is necessary to determine the cause in order to subsequently bear a healthy child.

The appearance of spotting during pregnancy is quite common. They occur in 65-79% of expectant mothers. In some cases they occur at the beginning of pregnancy, sometimes at a later stage. In any case, this situation should not be ignored, no matter what stage of pregnancy the woman is at the moment. Immediately after detecting bloody discharge, you should contact a gynecologist to eliminate the risk of a possible miscarriage.

The causes of bleeding during early pregnancy are not always associated with any pathology. Especially if their color is not scarlet, but brown. The nature of such discharge is quite simple - in the process of attachment of the fertilized egg to the uterus, a slight rejection of fragments of the mucous occurs. Typically, similar discharge is observed a week after fertilization.

Also, spotting during early pregnancy can cause cervical erosion. But it is worth noting that discharge of this nature is not accompanied by pain. Another cause of bleeding is the presence of sexually transmitted infections. The expectant mother may notice such discharge at 4 weeks of pregnancy. Bleeding at this stage is a signal of a threatened miscarriage, and at first the discharge is painless and insignificant. During this period, the uterus is not changed, and pregnancy can almost always be preserved.

As for spotting at 5 weeks, it may be a manifestation of normal menstruation. After all, for 10-15% of expectant mothers, periods continue for several more months.

If spotting appears in a woman at 6, 7 or 8 weeks, this is considered an alarming signal, which often signals a threat of miscarriage. In such situations, you should not hesitate to visit a gynecologist, who will determine the exact cause of the discharge.

A woman should be alerted to a slight amount of brown discharge at week 8. This may be an ectopic pregnancy, in which the embryo attaches to the fallopian tube. Its stretching due to the growth of the embryo causes severe pain in the lower abdomen.

Bloody discharge that appears in pregnant women at 9 weeks may be symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy or a threatened miscarriage. Also, such discharge may be normal if it falls on the days of menstruation. The cause may be abnormalities in fetal development, aggressive sex, or examination by a gynecologist.

If even slight discharge appears at 10 or 11 weeks after fertilization, you should immediately visit a doctor. After all, at this time the risk of miscarriage still remains. In order not to provoke it, you should not lift weights or visit the sauna. Also, in order to prevent the tone of the uterus from increasing, it is necessary to reduce the consumption of coffee, tea and Coca-Cola.

Bloody discharge during pregnancy in the second and third trimester

Experts name two main reasons leading to spotting in the second trimester: placental abruption and placental previa. If the diagnosis is confirmed, urgent treatment is necessary for the expectant mother. Features of such pathologies as placental abruption are:

  1. Most often it occurs in women suffering from hypertension or heavy smokers.
  2. Bloody discharge can be scanty or profuse, and can also be accompanied by minor pain in the lower abdomen and lower back.
  3. Most often, part of the placenta is detached; less often, it is completely detached.
  4. If such a pathology is detected, the woman undergoes a cesarean section at 30-36 weeks. In case of complete detachment, emergency surgery is performed regardless of the stage of pregnancy.

Bloody discharge in the third trimester of pregnancy is less common than in the first two. However, towards the end of the term, discharge may appear as the mucus plug comes out. Its main function is considered to be to protect the fetus from various infections and all kinds of external influences. As a rule, a loose mucus plug heralds the onset of labor.

Expecting a baby without complications is the cherished desire of any woman. During this period, the expectant mother should take care of her health most of all, because now she is responsible for two lives. Unfortunately, bleeding during pregnancy can overshadow the happy 9 months, forcing a woman to worry about the preservation of the fetus.

The causes of bleeding can be both physiological and pathological.

Mechanical damage

Bloody discharge after sex does not occur very often and is not particularly dangerous. During pregnancy, the cervix becomes looser, swollen, and is most susceptible to any pressure and careless actions. Therefore, blood after sexual intercourse appears precisely because of the microscopic damage that it receives during intimacy.

The cervix can receive similar damage when examined by a doctor. Bloody discharge at the 4th week of pregnancy may be due to injury from a mirror, because it is at this time that most women turn to the gynecologist with suspicion of pregnancy due to lack of menstruation. Such injuries do not pose a threat - already at the initial stage the doctor sees a closed cervix and will not carry out further manipulations in the vagina.

Pathologies of the uterus

Another common cause of discharge during pregnancy. For example, women often have myomatous or fibromatous nodes, and if the embryo has attached close to such a node, bleeding is possible.

As a rule, bright blood stains are not observed on underwear, but spotting blood discharge can last for several hours.

After IVF

Discharge during pregnancy, similar to menstruation, appears after the procedure. They are called the “vanishing twin” - when fertilized eggs are implanted, not all of them take root, so the rest are rejected naturally. Women undergoing IVF are warned in advance about such bleeding, so they just need to consult a doctor.

And in some cases, if the second child stops developing in the seventh or eighth week, then it completely dissolves in the amniotic fluid, and discharge does not occur at the 8th week of pregnancy.

After IVF, there are often cases when twins or triplets are born, but only the third or fourth “extra” egg is released.

Frozen pregnancy

It can occur at any stage; discharge often begins as early as 6 weeks of pregnancy. Their reasons lie in the body recognizing them as a threat to a woman’s health. If the embryo stops developing, toxins begin to be produced, triggering the miscarriage mechanism.

The appearance of bloody discharge during pregnancy should be an immediate signal to contact the clinic, because in 80% of cases the fetus can be saved by promptly removing the threat to its development.

Second trimester of pregnancy: secrets and threats

Most often, bleeding appears in the early stages of pregnancy, in the first trimester, but this does not mean that at 12 weeks it is a carefree time for the mother and there is no need to worry about the baby. If there are pathologies, then discharge occurs in the second trimester.

Most often, bleeding occurs for two reasons: due to improper formation or premature bleeding.

If bleeding occurs during this period, hospitalization is necessary, after which the doctor decides on further actions: monitoring the patient, abortion for medical reasons, emergency delivery.

Pathologies of the third trimester

Pathologies in the third trimester are not as scary as spotting in the 7th week of pregnancy, because even with an emergency delivery, the child can be saved by connecting to machines that support basic vital functions. And sometimes women with a difficult pregnancy already know at 10 weeks that they cannot carry the baby for the entire term, and they need to prepare for early labor, for example at 35 weeks.

In the third trimester, the following remain current causes of bleeding:

  • lack of progesterone;
  • incorrect position of the placenta;
  • early placental abruption.

However, the third trimester also has its own characteristics, namely. The causes of late toxicosis are different, but the manifestations of this condition make doctors worry about the condition of a pregnant woman, so if pain in the lower abdomen occurs, it is necessary to urgently consult a doctor. If these symptoms are ignored, a borderline state may occur not only for the mother, but also for the fetus. Bleeding in this case will be evidence of fetal rejection, and you may not have time to save the child.

Birth of a baby

The birth of a child is invariably associated with the appearance of bleeding. The expectant mother should not worry about this, because in fact, the birth of a baby is not much reminiscent of scenes from TV series, where blood splashes almost like a fountain. In fact, only about one cup of blood is lost during a normal birth.

The woman is already at 38 weeks, which indicates the imminent birth of the baby. Turning head down, the baby creates pressure, and the abdominal muscles are no longer able to maintain their rounded shape. According to this, doctors warn the woman about the upcoming delivery in the coming weeks.

Usually, the imminent birth of a child is indicated by a sign in which there may be small bloody streaks - in this case, the woman needs to pack her things and go to the maternity hospital. There is no need to be afraid of spotting at 40 weeks of pregnancy - this is a normal process. By this time, the baby has passed all periods of its development, is sufficiently protected to stay in a new environment, and there is no need to worry about its life.

Severe bleeding: first aid and danger to the fetus

Heavy bleeding during pregnancy occurs at any stage. It would seem that the fertilized egg attached and began its development, but then, for example, at 9 weeks bleeding began. What to do?

If significant amounts of blood appear, the following measures should be taken:

  • call an ambulance;
  • provide peace;
  • lie down in bed, raise your legs;
  • for severe pain, take;
  • apply cold ice to the lower abdomen;
  • do not use tampons, do not use the bathroom.

After delivery to the hospital, the doctor will determine the cause of the complication and prescribe treatment.

As for the danger to the fetus, in most cases, with timely hospitalization, doctors manage to preserve the pregnancy. Now in their arsenal there are a number of hormonal drugs that can replace the deficiency of the main female hormones - thanks to this, doctors successfully bring even difficult pregnancies to a natural end. If there is a real threat of miscarriage, the woman is admitted to a hospital and treated.

If the threat to the fetus is so great that decisive measures must be taken, doctors always try to save the child, but still the final choice is made in favor of the life and health of the mother.

Bloody discharge during pregnancy is not always a cause for panic. If you find red spots on your underwear, don’t worry - if you follow all the doctor’s instructions, you can carry and give birth to a healthy baby without complications. The main condition is to consult a doctor as soon as possible if you detect bloody discharge from the vagina during pregnancy.

Replies

That period of life when almost every woman pays special attention to her health most often occurs during pregnancy. At the same time, many changes in the body disturb and even frighten women. For example, most expectant mothers tend to become hysterical if they notice even a small amount of blood during pregnancy. But the majority of women who are faced with a similar phenomenon successfully carry the fetus to term and give birth to healthy babies on time.

However, bleeding during pregnancy cannot be considered normal. Often it indicates a pathology of pregnancy, and therefore you should consult a doctor without delay! The only case when you can do without medical help is minor spotting that appears before your period is missed.

Is bloody discharge a sign of pregnancy?

If discharge containing blood appears 6-12 days after the expected conception, then it can be considered a sign of pregnancy. As a rule, they are not accompanied by pain and last no longer than a few hours. However, sometimes they can go on for 24 hours. This discharge is caused by a natural physiological process - the “implantation” of the fertilized egg into the wall of the uterus.

At the same time, for many women, the discharge is so scanty that it goes unnoticed. However, the most attentive ladies, who are looking forward to pregnancy and closely monitoring changes in the body, detect pink discharge or mucous discharge with a small blood content.

No treatment is required in this situation. Yes, and you don’t have to rush to see a gynecologist if the discharge is painless and does not become abundant. You just have to take a closer look at your lifestyle, give up cigarettes and alcohol, change your daily routine, reconsider your diet and start treating yourself more carefully.

Bloody discharge is a signal of hormonal imbalance

Every fourth expectant mother experiences spotting on the day when, according to her cycle, her period should have started. Moreover, the discharge can be both abundant and scanty, but in any case short-lived. The reason for their appearance is a hormonal imbalance, in particular a lack of progesterone.

During pregnancy, this hormone prevents endometrial detachment. But with a lack of progesterone, partial detachment still occurs. Most often this does not threaten anything. However, if progesterone levels are very low, a woman may lose her pregnancy. Therefore, be sure to inform your gynecologist if you experience bloody discharge on the day of your expected menstruation.

Bloody discharge is a sign of ectopic pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancy is a fairly rare occurrence. It occurs if the fertilized egg does not descend into the uterus, but attaches itself wherever it pleases. The reason for this may be inflammation, lack of hormones and even stress.

It is impossible to save such a pregnancy! Moreover, the later a lady goes to see a doctor, the less chance of saving her life. If the tube or cervix ruptures, heavy bleeding begins, leading to death!

Most often, an ectopic pregnancy is accompanied not only by copious discharge with blood, but also by significant pain in the lower abdomen. If you have such symptoms, call an ambulance immediately! Sometimes the clock literally counts. In addition, you may not have an ectopic pregnancy at all.

Bloody discharge during pregnancy and acute abdominal pain can be caused by spontaneous abortion. In such a situation, only timely seeking help from doctors will save the life of your unborn baby.

Bloody discharge is a harbinger of premature birth

The threat of spontaneous abortion can arise at absolutely any stage. It's not hard to recognize:

  • The uterus tenses, becomes “stone”;
  • The stomach or lower back begins to hurt;
  • The discharge becomes more abundant every hour, and blood is clearly visible in it.

Only immediate medical intervention will help preserve pregnancy. Based on the mother’s condition, doctors select complex therapy that relieves the tone of the uterus and prevents spontaneous abortion. Therefore, if you experience the symptoms described above, be sure to call an ambulance!

Bloody discharge and frozen pregnancy

Pain in the lower abdomen in combination with bloody discharge can be caused by a pathology such as frozen pregnancy. Nothing can be done to help the fetus in this situation - it is dead. But it is still possible to save a woman’s life, you just need to see a doctor in time!

But, unfortunately, ladies who discover bloody discharge during pregnancy do not always call an ambulance. In case of a frozen pregnancy, at best, spontaneous abortion occurs, at worst, uterine suppuration, sepsis and death.

Placenta previa causes bloody discharge

Occasionally, bloody discharge provokes placenta previa, but with such a pregnancy pathology it is possible to carry a healthy baby. It is true that in this situation you cannot do without medical help. It is likely that complex therapy will be required to preserve the fetus, since placenta previa is often accompanied by the threat of spontaneous abortion.

However, having eliminated the threat of miscarriage, doctors often allow the woman to return to her normal lifestyle. Only sometimes (in case of complete presentation) a pregnant woman is prescribed to remain in bed until delivery. But what kind of sacrifices can you not decide to make for the birth of a healthy baby, right?

What else can cause bloody discharge?

Discharge streaked with blood during pregnancy can occur for a variety of reasons. For example, mild bleeding may be observed in pregnant women after douching, sexual intercourse, or examination by a gynecologist using a speculum. They arise due to microtraumas of the vaginal mucosa, which during pregnancy becomes loose and vulnerable.

Another cause of such discharge may be an infection of the genitourinary system. A smear analysis helps to identify it, and on its basis, a gentle treatment is selected that does not harm the health of the unborn child. Also, discharge with blood is observed in the last weeks of pregnancy, at the time the mucus plug comes out.

But no matter what causes the discharge with blood, you need to immediately inform the gynecologist about its appearance! Only a doctor, using ultrasound during pregnancy, can understand the true cause of this phenomenon and choose the optimal solution for any situation.

The state of pregnancy is the most unusual, unknown and long-awaited for every girl. It can rightfully be called a miracle, since no man is able to bear, much less give birth to, a baby.

Pregnancy

Every woman ovulates once a month. There are, of course, several cycles a year when there is no release of an egg from the ovary, but this is rather the exception than the rule. When a female cell leaves its habitat, it may meet a male cell on its way. This is how fertilization occurs. Later, dividing and multiplying, the lump of chromosome fusion moves into the uterine cavity. It is there, attached to its wall, that the fertilized egg will develop over the next months.

Discharge

Sometimes girls may be concerned about the release of certain fluid from the genital tract. Their consistency, color and intensity depend on many factors. Discharge during pregnancy normally has neither odor nor large volume. It is worth recalling that female discharge changes quite significantly throughout the menstrual cycle. In its first days, you can observe profuse bleeding, after which the mucus becomes quite slippery and abundant. This occurs in order to maximally facilitate the advancement of male cells for subsequent fertilization. Immediately after ovulation, a change in the acting hormones occurs, due to which the discharge acquires a minimal volume and a rather sticky, adhesive consistency. Towards the end of the menstrual cycle, cervical mucus becomes like a thick cream.

With the onset of conception, discharge in the early stages of pregnancy continues to be quite scanty and creamy. This happens due to the large release of progesterone, which relaxes the uterine muscle and prevents it from contracting. But after 3 months of embryo development, the production of this hormone begins to decrease, which leads to an increase in the amount of mucus. Transparent discharge during pregnancy appears during this time period. There is no need to worry about this; this is an absolutely normal phenomenon that does not require medical intervention.

Norm

It is worth remembering what healthy cervical mucus should be like during pregnancy. Usually it has neither color nor smell. Its consistency is liquid, the amount is moderate.

Of course, there should be no blood impurities. Also, yellowish discharge during pregnancy should alert the expectant mother and force her to see a doctor, as an infection that is dangerous to the fetus may be detected.

Make sure that there is no unpleasant odor from the cervical mucus; this may also indicate existing inflammation. Clear discharge during pregnancy can be quite copious. There is no pathology in this. For comfort, doctors recommend using sanitary panty liners.

Bloody mucus

Dark bloody discharge

There is a relationship between concepts such as early pregnancy, brown discharge and pain. Quite often, expectant mothers experience a condition called a lack of progesterone production. It is this hormone that allows the uterus to be in the most relaxed state. When it becomes small, the muscle containing the fertilized egg begins to contract, which leads to subsequent detachment of the embryo.

As a result of this process, a so-called hematoma occurs between the uterine wall and the amnion. Over time, this accumulation of blood is emptied, and the woman may observe brown discharge.

This pathology must be brought under control as quickly as possible. Medical intervention is necessary. Typically, a pregnant woman is prescribed medications containing the missing hormone and medications necessary to maintain pregnancy. If you consult a doctor in a timely manner, the prognosis is usually favorable.

Bright spotting

There are times when a pregnant woman discovers quite bright, fresh blood in her cervical mucus. Such discharge during pregnancy may indicate a phenomenon such as progressive detachment of the ovum. This situation is quite dangerous for the life of the unborn baby. When, under the influence of certain factors, the embryo begins to depart from the uterine wall, the smallest blood vessels are damaged. It is their contents that color the cervical mucus scarlet.

Such a pathology requires immediate attention to a doctor. If you ignore this condition, the fertilized egg may be completely detached, and it will no longer be possible to maintain the pregnancy. If a woman quickly consults a doctor, she has every chance of carrying and giving birth to a healthy baby.

Implantation

Some women experience slight bleeding as the fertilized egg attaches to the wall of the uterus. But they do not yet know that they are pregnant, and mistake such blood for the onset of menstruation. At this early stage of pregnancy, spotting is quite scanty and ends quickly.

A similar phenomenon occurs due to the fact that the fertilized egg wants to penetrate as deeply as possible into the uterine wall, thereby causing minor damage to the smallest capillaries. Treatment in this case is not required. And the expectant mother herself usually does not go to the doctor, since she does not yet know about her situation.

Erosion

Heavy discharge in early pregnancy can be caused by damaged cervical mucosa. If it is injured during sexual intercourse, a so-called “daub” may occur. This condition certainly requires treatment, but not while pregnant. Most likely, immediately after giving birth you will be offered several methods to eliminate erosion.

Ectopic pregnancy

When the embryo develops in a place not intended for it, some discharge may also be observed. They are usually quite heavy and similar to a regular period or the beginning of one. In this case, the woman’s life may be at risk, so it is necessary to contact a specialist as soon as possible to clarify the diagnosis and carry out medical correction.

Pathological discharge

Sometimes a pregnant woman may experience unusual discharge that is not typical for her condition. They are usually characterized by an unusual color and a pungent odor. In this case, there is most likely an infection or inflammation.

The bright green or yellow color of the discharge during pregnancy indicates that sexually transmitted diseases are present in the genital tract. They can be very dangerous for the fetus and have the most unforeseen consequences. With untreated infections, complications can arise both during childbirth and during the formation of embryonic organs.

If you find discharge in the early stages of pregnancy that does not fit the description of the norm, you should immediately consult a doctor. Only a doctor can correctly diagnose and find out the cause of the existing pathology. After which antibacterial therapy will be carried out at a period that is as safe as possible for the development of the fetus.

Treatment

Absolutely all discharge during pregnancy is divided into two types. Some of them require treatment and medical correction, while others go away on their own. It is worth taking a closer look at the category that should be subject to medical intervention.

Discharge in the early stages of pregnancy in the form of blood requires examination with an ultrasound device to determine the cause of its appearance. Next, depending on the diagnosis, a correction method is selected. If a threat of miscarriage is detected, then measures are taken to preserve the fetus and further develop the pregnancy. If an ectopic pregnancy is detected, urgent surgery is indicated.

Discharge during pregnancy that has a heavy mass and a sour smell may indicate the onset of thrush due to reduced immunity. In this case, the doctor prescribes antifungal drugs that are safe for the baby.

If you have green discharge with an unpleasant, pungent odor, you are most likely dealing with inflammation in the vagina or, as it is also called, bacterial vaginosis. In this case, the pregnant woman needs to take antibiotics. Which ones, when and in what dosage is decided solely by the doctor.

If you notice spotting later in pregnancy, it can be even more dangerous than seeing blood early in the fetus's development. There may be placental abruption. This pathological phenomenon poses a threat not only to the life of the child, but also to the pregnant woman herself.

When planning a pregnancy, do not be lazy and visit a doctor. You may have to undergo some examination and undergo a series of tests, but by doing so you will insure yourself against possible pathologies while carrying your baby.

If you suddenly notice discharge during pregnancy that causes alarm, you should consult your doctor as soon as possible. Now that a new life is growing and developing under your heart, you must be as responsible and attentive as possible to your well-being. Do not hesitate to ask questions at your next appointment with your obstetrician-gynecologist. Ask about everything that worries you, and then your pregnancy will proceed easily and without complications.
