How to knit from T-shirts. How to turn deposits from old T-shirts into colorful rugs with your own hands. We knit a rug from knitted yarn

Crafts from improvised materials are a very profitable occupation. Especially when it comes to knitwear yarn: you just take unnecessary T-shirts, cut them into pieces and get knitting material for free - a kind of yarn. Knitting from it is very fast and convenient, because such yarn comes out thick and is suitable for a large hook. So you can easily crochet a hot pad, chair mat or rugs from old T-shirts, which we have already talked about.

To create this yarn, you will need old knitted T-shirts (preferably larger ones) and scissors. It is better to take T-shirts in large sizes in order to fool less. Children's knitwear is also suitable for this venture, but it will be extremely inconvenient to cut yarn from it. And the “threads” themselves will then turn out to be very short.

The perfect T-shirt for yarn is solid and large. Here it is:

How to make yarn from T-shirts? Work description

For yarn, the smoothest part of the T-shirt is useful, without unnecessary seams and seals. Therefore, the bottom edge should be trimmed. In addition, you need to cut off the top of the T-shirt along the line from armpit to armpit.

It turns out here is such a "pipe" - knitwear, sewn with two seams on the sides. Then one side edge must be folded to the other, stepping back a little (literally 2-3 cm). So, the bottom edge should protrude, this is a very important condition.

Fold the shirt in half again. At the same time, the protruding part should look out from under the layers of knitwear.

Decide what thickness of yarn you need. After cutting, the strips will noticeably decrease, twisting into a tube, so the ideal width of the strips is about 2.5 cm. It is into such strips that the folded knitwear should be cut.

Note: you only need to cut through the T-shirt folded in several layers, but not the protruding edge of the fabric. Make slits all over the t-shirt roll.

Now you can expand the "pipe" and see what happened. The part of the knit that remains uncut will help the threads become continuous.

Now you need to put on the hand or on the base (for example, on a jar) that part of the fabric that remained uncut.

You must be able to see the cuts well so that you can continue to work correctly later.

Now take the scissors again and make the following diagonal cuts. From the incision of the first row - to the second, from the second - to the third and so on.

It is this technique that will make the yarn continuous. Otherwise, if you just cut the T-shirt into straight strips, they would then need to be tied together, which is very inconvenient.

After making all the diagonal cuts and unfolding the knit, you will get several meters of finished knit yarn.

Pull these strips along: the threads will stretch slightly and twist on the sides, hiding the edges of the fabric.

T-shirt yarn is ready!

Now it needs to be wound into a ball for ease of use.

To make all kinds of crafts from such yarn, you can use not only a hook, but also knitting needles No. 8 or even No. 10.

Good afternoon friends!

Today I have ideas for you on what to make from old t-shirts. After all, we have a lot of this good stored at home, and it’s a pity to throw away worn or worn-out T-shirts that have become small. So let's empty the cabinets and make original pillows, baskets, bags, rugs and other things from old T-shirts with our own hands.

What can be done with old T-shirts. Ideas. A photo

From old T-shirts, as well as from other clothes, you can create a lot of new products.

For centuries, people have made rag carpets from scraps of fabric and old clothes. In modern times, of course, everything is available and can be bought. But handicraft and creativity are more in fashion than ever, and you can be proud of things made by yourself, in which the soul is invested and creativity is revealed.

In addition, this is also budget savings, and not the one who has a lot of money is rich, but who knows how to save and properly manage them.

Here is just a small list and a photo of what can be made from old T-shirts:

Pompoms are made from knitted yarn in the same way as from woolen yarn, winding the yarn around a cardboard circle.

Ideas for decorating pillows with knitted flowers can be viewed.

From a whole T-shirt, you can try to make a pillowcase on a pillow, and craftsmen make bags.

But even more interesting, in my opinion, are crafts made from yarn cut from an old T-shirt.

Such things can be connected very quickly, literally in a day even.

Moreover, the manufacturing methods can be different, not only crocheting, but also methods without a hook. Let's consider them in detail below using the example of making rugs, bags and baskets.

In the meantime, I'll tell you about what kind of pillow I sewed.

Pillow from an old T-shirt

I had a favorite knitted T-shirt, but I completely grew out of it, so I decided to use it for a pillowcase on a sofa cushion. The idea lay in bed and waited for inspiration, until I saw a photo of an interesting pillow made of fabric, combined with a knitted insert.

And so my new pillow was born. How to make a pillow from an old T-shirt, I'll tell you now.

In principle, nothing difficult.

Now I have such a bright pillow from an old T-shirt.

How to make yarn from knitted t-shirts

For knitting or weaving rugs and other products from old T-shirts, we need to make yarn from them.

T-shirt yarn is essentially ribbons cut from it, the width of which is 10-15 mm and does not have to be even and the same along the entire length, so you don’t need to measure and draw anything.

You just need to cut the ribbons from the T-shirt, moving in a spiral.

How to do it better and more conveniently, you can see in the presented video tutorial from:

We carefully wind the cut ribbons freely into skeins, without pulling the yarn, which already tends to stretch.

We connect short pieces of ribbons together in the following way.

  1. We make small holes at the ends of two ribbons.
  2. We pass one tape through a hole on the second tape.
  3. We insert the opposite end (without a hole) of the second tape into the hole of the first tape and tighten the yarn.

To be honest, I don’t really like this method, because holes still remain here. When crocheting rugs, such a connection can still be used, but for more elegant products, it is better to sew yarn with a needle and thread to match the yarn. And in the process of knitting, it will only be possible to sew ribbons from yarn.

The ends of the tapes superimposed on each other should be sewn neatly along the edges in a straightened form. Then the tape will shrink and the seams will remain inside it.

Bags from old T-shirts

Beautiful bags can be crocheted from yarn cut from old T-shirts of different colors.

And there is another interesting way to create a creative summer beach or shopping bag.

To do this, we need a ready-made basket, which we use for household needs.

We cut the yarn from T-shirts into small strips of the same size and tie each one by inserting it into the holes of the basket, we simply wrap the handle with ribbons.

A lovely shaggy bag from an old T-shirt turns out!

Basket from an old T-shirt

A basket of knitted yarn can also be crocheted in the usual way for us, here's how, for example. By the way, great idea for a holiday! Take a thinner hook so that the knitting is tight and the basket keeps its shape.

There is another option, also crocheted, but using yarn for knitting - acrylic or cotton, you can just use the leftover yarn.

In this case, the T-shirt ribbons will remain inside the yarn loops. I think that the principle of such knitting will be clear from the photo.

Rugs from old T-shirts

Perhaps, for rugs from old T-shirts, there are the largest number of manufacturing methods. And they are very popular now.

Such rugs are light, soft, wash well, and the yarn is budget compared to expensive.

And you can knit rugs not only round, but also any other shapes.

Crochet rugs

Since the yarn from old T-shirts is quite thick, the size of the hook for knitting rugs should be about 8-10.

You can see how to knit a simple round rug from old T-shirts.

And I also made a video and a description of the principles of knitting one quite popular one, follow the link.

These rugs are usually made on a construction or garden grid.

The hook in this method of creating rugs is used only as an auxiliary tool for pulling up the yarn.

Bargello style rugs

Here we come to the last version of rugs from old T-shirts, which I like the most, and the idea is relatively new.

This method is beautiful. But, if delicate work on embroidering pillows, tablecloths and other elegant things requires special skill and a lot of time, then embroidering, or rather pulling thick knitted yarn through the mesh, is much easier.

To fix the ends of the tapes along the edges of the mesh, double-sided tape is used.

Here, I do not have enough patience and skill for the super-artistic, artistic value things that many and many country-mother craftswomen do. And the desire to do something - you can’t put it anywhere. Well, and ... - I share.

I had in stock several men's seamless (without side seams, the so-called seamless) t-shirts ready for throwing out and one of my own, which completely filled up. From such a good thin jersey. And I began to think, it is impossible to find some use for them? I immediately remembered my grandmother's woven rugs, still rustic. From torn strips from worn-out bed linen, shirts, and other clothes. She called them "Palaces"... But somehow you can't really get in touch with looms, in modern times.

And I found detailed instructions on the Internet for me on how to make yarn from T-shirts. Here is an example:

The trouble is that some moments in all these master classes remained completely unclear to me. For example, I still (woe bitterly!) still do not understand how, following the instructions given on the indicated link, cutting off the side seams and eventually getting TWO small rectangles of knitted fabric, you can achieve a long, long and continuous "thread".

Therefore, having already cut up a dozen T-shirts after inventing the bicycle myself, I offer my own master class. Suddenly, who will fit.

1. We take a clean and wrinkled T-shirt and cut off the upper part along the line drawn between the lower points of the armholes (ie, under the sleeves).

2. We get rid of the double layer of fabric in the hem: either we cut off this part altogether - right above the seam line, or we open the overlock seam (it took me a couple of minutes longer than cutting off the hem, but it saved an extra meter and a half or two "yarn" for work). As a result, we get a knitted "pipe" without seams, ready for manipulation with scissors.

3. Carefully fold our "pipe" (=two layers of fabric) on the plane. We follow the uniform distribution of the canvas - the cut edges should more or less coincide and are located on the sides during further manipulations.

4. We take the lower quarter (with a fold line) and tuck it up:

Then we repeat the manipulation again

Before us is a "pipe", folded into six layers of fabric in this way:

That is, the edge of the fabric farthest from us, 3-4 centimeters wide, turns out to be two-layer, and in front of us is a neatly folded flat "roll" of six layers of fabric, which we will now cut.

5. We mark the cut lines - the width of the strips, depending on personal preferences and the overall design of the product. Personally, I cut thin T-shirts (underwear, undershirts) into strips 4.5 cm wide, and denser ones (top, sports) - 3.5-4 cm.

6. We cut parallel to the edge, leaving the “thin” edge farthest from us uncut.

7. Here's what it all looks like when all the strips are cut:

8. We shake our fringe, straighten the remaining intact "connective" tissue and, ensuring the CONTINUITY of the strips of the fabric, make the following clear cuts, as it were, diagonally - from the end point of the first cut - to the start point of the second, from the end of the second - to the beginning of the third, from third - in the fourth, and so on until the very end. I hope the pictures made it clearer exactly how these cuts go:

9. We return to the first, still remaining "ring" strip, and cut it, ensuring the continuity of the "yarn".

10. We stretch the resulting tape in our hands (this helps to form a neat, rounded plump "thread" + bonus! - an excellent exercise to strengthen the muscles of the chest) and fold it into a ball.

Did you know that you can make an inextricable seamless thread, “yarn”, from a T-shirt, the main thing is to know how to cut it correctly. This yarn is used for knitting bags, rugs; decoration different items. We will talk about this later, but for now - detailed master class on how to cut a T-shirt into yarn.

I have a small T-shirt with side seams, but if you take an ordinary colored T-shirt, preferably without drawings, then there will be no seams.

First you need to cut off the top under the sleeves and the bottom tuck seam (although you can simply unpick it, this will add a meter and a half to the yarn).

Get a pipe. We put it in front of us on the table with the folds up and towards us, and with the cut sides on the sides. Now we bend the lower part, a little less than a third up, as in the picture. You will get 2 layers at the top, 4 at the bottom. We bend the four-layer part up again, leaving 3-4 centimeters of the upper two-layer part free, see the picture. In total, the lower part is 6 layers, at the top at the fold - only 2.

Now we mark 3-4 cm, as shown in the figure, so that cut the t-shirt into strips. You need to cut to a two-layer top, leaving 2-3 cm there not cut. After that, we can unfold the stacked layers and we will see our pipe cut into strips.

For clarity, I put it on the roller with an uncut fold up. Now our task is to cut the strips so that we get an inextricable thread, our future yarn. To do this, we make diagonal cuts so that the first strip smoothly passes into the second, the second - into the third, etc. We look:

Now you need to slightly stretch the resulting thread out of the fabric with your hands, folding it into a ball. It stretches so that the sides wrap up, and it turns out such a thin tube, from which it is then convenient to knit with a thick crochet or sew roses.

From my little T-shirt, I got such a basket for the Little Red Riding Hood costume, and if you take a few colored T-shirts, then you can.

I read that some amateurs buy dozens of multi-colored T-shirts in second-hand and knit beautiful products, even for sale. So, you can not only!

We continue the theme of remaking old T-shirts into something new and original. Even if you have never been particularly fond of needlework, you can create something magical - create a new thing from an old one. In this master class, we will show you how to make a beautiful rug and not only a rug with your own hands. And for this you will not need to go to the store for threads or fabric, you already have everything you need at home.

In this master class, we use old t-shirts. We have already published an article: This piece of clothing is short-lived, T-shirts often stretch, tear and simply wash out. If you have a child, then there is probably a whole mountain of T-shirts that he has already grown out of. You can invite him to participate in this exciting undertaking with the transformation of T-shirts into something new.

How to crochet a soft rug from old t-shirts

We start by making yarn from old T-shirts. Cut the T-shirt into equal strips, pull the strips slightly to the sides so that the edges are rounded. Cut the T-shirt in a circle and do not worry about the side seam, when knitting it will not disperse.

The longer the strip, the better. Roll it into a ball to make it easier for you to knit. Cut the rest of the t-shirt into strips too. Short ones are needed in order to be able to make transitions. You can use a contrasting color T-shirt for this purpose.

If the glomeruli are not large enough, that is, the strips are short, you can lengthen them. To do this, make one small incision at the end of the first and second strips. Then align the strips so that the holes on them match.

After that, pull the end of the second strip (in our case it is blue) through the aligned holes so that it is on the bottom. Tighten the resulting knot tightly. In this way, you can attach the remaining strips if you plan to knit a large rug.

"Threads" are ready, it's time to start knitting. The rug is knitted in the same way as a regular napkin, that is, by closing in a circle of crocheted air loops. The only difference is the size of the hook, but our "threads" are unusual!

For those who have never crocheted!

So, you need to knit a chain of four loops, then make a column in the first loop (single crochet). Next, we form a ring - we put the hook into the first loop. In the center of the ring, we knit eight columns without a crochet, insert the hook into the center and throw on the thread. Pulling a loop through the center, we get two loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through two loops. To make the first row, we knit without a crochet in each column of the first ring for two more columns. The result will be 16 columns. The point is that our circle will constantly expand, since two columns will appear above each column of the corresponding row. When the rug from old T-shirts reaches the size you need, it is enough to tie a knot, fixing the end of the thread (you can tie it around the previous row).

In the same way, you can knit bright potholders and hot coasters for the kitchen, baskets and bags.

Yarn and old T-shirts can be braided into plastic baskets

The result is a stylish and bright accessory!

You can even weave a carpet from an old T-shirt
